Use Whisk with Claude Code
To put an app you built with Claude Code online for your team, ask Claude Code to deploy it to Whisk. It installs the Whisk command line, you approve one login in your browser, and it gives you a web address your team can log in to.
Your app gets logins, a database with backups and scheduled jobs. You don't have to set any of them up.
Who this is for
You've built something with Claude Code, and it works on your laptop. It might be a job tracker, a quote calculator or a report. Now you want your team to use it too, without becoming a server administrator.
What your app needs to go online
Copying the code somewhere isn't enough. Before your team can use the app, it needs:
- A web address that uses HTTPS, an encrypted connection, so nobody in between can read what people send.
- Logins, so each person logs in as themselves and only the right people get in.
- A database that several people can use at once, kept somewhere safer than your laptop.
- Backups, so a mistake can be undone.
- A computer that's always on, so the app and anything on a schedule keep running when your laptop is closed.
Whisk gives your app all five. Claude Code reads Whisk's instructions and changes your app to fit them.
The steps
1. Ask Claude Code to deploy it
Open Claude Code in your app's folder and paste this:
Read https://whisk.run/skill and follow it to deploy this app to Whisk. Install the whisk command line if it isn't installed. Adapt the app to Whisk's rules: sign-in comes from Whisk, not from the app, and data goes in the Postgres database Whisk provides. Run whisk doctor until it passes, then deploy, and tell me the web address.
Claude Code reads the instructions, installs the command line and starts work.
2. Approve the login
Early on, Claude Code runs whisk login. It shows you a web address and a short code. Open the address, log in to Whisk (or create a free account), check the code matches, and approve it.
That lets Claude Code work on Whisk for you. You only do this once on each computer.
3. Let it change the app to fit Whisk
Claude Code adds a small file called whisk.yaml that describes your app. Then it makes a few changes so the app follows Whisk's rules:
- If your app has its own login screen, Claude Code removes it. Whisk logs people in before they reach the app, and tells the app who they are.
- If your app keeps data in a file or in the browser, Claude Code moves it into the app's own database.
- Passwords and keys for other services come out of the code. You type them into Whisk instead.
Then it runs whisk doctor. This checks the app against the rules and says exactly what to fix. Claude Code fixes it and runs the check again.
4. Deploy
Claude Code runs whisk deploy. Whisk builds the app, sets up its database, checks that it starts properly and turns it on. Claude Code gives you the web address. It looks like https://jobs.your-team.whisk.page.
If the app needs keys for other services, Claude Code tells you their names and where to enter them in Whisk. You type them in yourself, so they never go into a chat.
5. Invite your team
Open the app's page in Whisk. Invite your team by email and choose who can use the app. They log in, and they're in.
Making changes later
Keep working in Claude Code the same way. When you're happy with a change, ask it to deploy again.
Every deploy is checked before it goes live. If a change to the database fails, Whisk puts the database back the way it was and keeps the old version running.
To try something without touching the live app, work on a separate branch. When you deploy from a branch, it gets its own preview address and the live app stays the same.
What it costs
Every business runs one app on Whisk free, forever, with up to three people on the team. When you have more than one tool, Starter is $49 (US) a month for 10 apps, with no limit on people. You can try Starter free for a month first. See pricing.
Next step
Copy the prompt in step 1 into Claude Code. To start something new instead, ask Claude Code to "read https://whisk.run/skill and build me" the tool you need.
