How it works

Video and audio are uploaded like any other file, straight from the browser to file storage. Once the file has been scanned, Whisk converts it with FFmpeg, the open-source media tool, into several quality levels and a poster image. The original plays while the conversion runs.

A page shows the video with Whisk's player: one script and a <whisk-video> element. The player picks the quality that fits the space and the viewer's connection, and steps down if playback stalls. Viewers can also choose a quality themselves.

A private video plays only for people signed in to the app. A public one can be embedded on any website with the same element or an iframe. Converting is a monthly allowance; past it, new videos play as uploaded until the month turns, as the company website guide also explains.

Example

A pump and valve distributor films short installation videos for its products. Public ones play on the product pages of its website, and private training videos are shown only to signed-in staff of its trade customers.

For your coding agent

<script src="/.whisk/player.js" defer></script>
<whisk-video media="<media id>"></whisk-video>

Authorise the upload with its real content type and "visibility": "public" when anyone may watch. The upload steps are in the environment reference.
